We are seeking a Machinist - Engineering Tech IV at Air Force Research Laboratory (ARFL), Edwards, AFB, CA. Overview: This position will be responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision parts for aerospace research. This position will work with world class Researchers and help to develop unique parts to ensure their research takes place. Must be able to perform at a high level with little direction. Will be required to maintain machines. The machinist must have some knowledge in Programming and will ensure products meet the design's precise specifications. Duties: Determine the fixtures, attachments and tools necessary to complete jobs according to specifications, and mount them to machine prior to beginning cutting. Discuss project specifications with engineers and supervisors to guarantee consistency between plans and products, and collaborate to modify designs when existing ones are not feasible. Modify machine speed, tooling and cutting style to ensure precision and accuracy of manufactured parts. Oversee cutting process, make adjustments throughout each job, catch mistakes as they happen and take necessary measures to eliminate errors. Monitor machine temperatures, ensure that machine has adequate warm-up and cool-down time between jobs, and replace coolant periodically. Review and interpret cutting plans, enter them into control outlets before jobs, and alter them to correct mistakes when necessary. Inspect all finished products for accuracy and uniformity to ensure product quality and uphold company reputation. Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance tasks to ensure machine longevity, including lubrication, cleaning and tool replacement. Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce metal parts. Review electronic or written blueprints or specifications for a job.Education, Training and Experience Maintainance of machines. The machinist must have some knowledge in programming and will ensure products meet the design's precise specifications. Work as a team with other professional machinists and also work alone in completing tasks. Requirements: High School Diploma or GED. 5-7 years of experience as a Machinist. Ability to read and understand blueprints and engineered drawings. Ability to perform programming is preferred. Must be able to perform at a high level with little direction. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Able to perform repetitive functions. Knowledge or the ability to operate a water lathe. Safety focused. Must be on-time and ready for work.
