Conductix-Wampfler, a leading global provider of energy and data transmission solutions, is seeking a high energy, self-directed, quality and customer-focused Project Mechanical Engineer to coordinate and manage activities related to the design and specification of products for Mass Transit systems. Responsibilities include developing proposals for quotation, customized product design, and delivering a solution that meets final acceptance criteria for a project.

This individual will work closely with our global transit customer's contacts/technical staff and our internal sales, engineering, quality and manufacturing teams to drive the project and monitor customer design requirements during the project life cycle. They will be accountable to project timelines, guiding customer discussions and tracking and coordinating the internal engineering design, procurement, production planning, quality requirements and test specifications of projects.

They must be able to work comfortably with all levels of our organization, gain an understanding of technical aspects of the product and work with the complexity of the internal processes needed to ensure we meet all the customer's contractual requirements. They must be able to handle multiple tasks and complete assigned tasks within specified timeframes.

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills; written, oral, email and telephone.
  • Minimum of 5 years practical, hands-on experience in project management, document storage/retrieval and customer relationship management preferred.
  • Must be able handle changing priorities and demands.
  • Must be available for Domestic and International travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Proficient in Solidworks or other 3D modeling programs.
  • Government contract experience is a plus.
  • Mass Transit and/or Railway product experience is a plus.

The Project Mechanical Engineering role shall support the Project Engineering team by providing detailed Mechanical Engineering support. An individual in this role is expected to provide guidance and direction to other Engineering team members concerning mechanical design, verification, validation, and project risk assessment activities. Directly involved in customized product design for large projects with our Transit market. Responsible for verifying and validating designs meet customer and project specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include

  • Designs, develops, and tests mechanical and electrical products from concept to completion for large projects and contracts.

  • Processes, reviews, and approves ECOs, drawing packages, bills of materials, math data, and other technical documentation.

  • Carries out all activities related to custom-engineered solution development including, but not limited to, designing, modeling, drafting, prototyping, and testing.

  • Completes mechanical analysis and simulations of new designs to assure compliance prior to testing or manufacturing.

  • Completes stress, durability, and fatigue life analysis for mechanical parts and systems.

  • Selects materials and recommends manufacturing processes.

  • Actively involved in building, assembling, and testing designs.

  • Performs design validation and verification of products as required to assure products meets specifications.

  • Review and approves mechanical and structural designs.

  • Assesses and identifies project and product risks, takes action to reduce risks throughout the course of a development or research project.

  • Supports corrective action investigation, analysis, and permanent corrective action implementation.

  • Performs on-site inspections and supports commissioning activities.

  • Understands and interprets regulatory codes such as UL, NEC and NFPA.

Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities

  • This role has no supervisory responsibilities, anyone in this role is expected to provide guidance and leadership to team members in supporting Mechanical Engineer I, II, III and Designer roles.

Qualified candidates will possess the following

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Mechanical Engineering from four-year college or university; and seven to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience with mechanical system design, mathematical modeling, and validation is required.

  • Knowledge of electrical contact design, sliding contacts, and basic electrical concepts is desirable.

  • A Mechanical PE License in Nebraska, New York, California, or the ability to obtain one is desirable.

  • Ability to manage many concurrent projects while maintaining a high level of productivity to complete projects on time.
