Researches, analyzes, and resolves standard customer concerns and inquiries via various forms of communication i.e. phone, email, site visits, etc. Provides information on City programs, rates and/or process changes, and guidelines. Educates the public on various initiatives and/or programs. Provides general information to customers on account balances, services, delinquent accounts and adjustments. May work with other departments and agencies to resolve billing inquiries, verify new customer accounts with other companies, collect and balance daily revenue from sale of permits, receipts or fees. Performs data entry activities to record information, distribute forms to customers to complete for City services, refer customers who require additional assistance to the appropriate agencies May create work orders and project numbers. Must have good computer skills and experienced with Excel for tracking and performance measures. Must have good communication skills, written and oral as well as excellent Customer Service skills. Performs other related duties as requested.

This position is physically comfortable with discretion of walking, standing, etc. Essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.

Job Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

Six months of administrative or customer service-related experience is required.

Substitution: An Associate's degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.


Applicants with Call Center experience and/or Utility experience will be given preferred consideration.

Candidates with Call Center and or Utility experience will be a plus. Any Bilingual skills a plus.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
